Vizsla Puppies!

At Harmony Vizslas we strive to produce beautiful Hungarian Vizslas that have correct conformation, natural hunting ability, and sweet temperaments. Our dogs are OFA certified for hips, and each has numerous VCA and AKC titles in conformation, field, and obedience, which reflect the beauty, intelligence, and versatility of our breeding stock. If you are interested in getting a puppy from one of our litters, please contact Donna Karis at dckaris@gmail.com. If we do not have puppies available, we are happy to refer you to reputable Vizsla breeders here in Arizona and across the country who currently have puppies, or are planning litters in the near future.

        The Tori-Tabasco puppies have arrived!
Tori and Tabasco were bred, and the litter of puppies was born on March 31, 2010. This was a repeat breeding of Tori's second litter. For photos of the previous litter, see Tori's second litter and Tabasco's Puppies. For photos of this litter, see my blog here.                              Tristan, Guinever and Lancelot

Because we rarely breed our dogs, puppies are an exciting event!
Our dogs have Conformation, Obedience, and Field titles from the AKC as well as Vizsla Club of America Versatility Certificates. Tori is very smart, affectionate, athletic, and loves to hunt. Tabasco is handsome, sweet, devoted and a true "walking gentleman's shooting dog."  Carmen is beautiful, energetic and loves the field. All our dogs are beautiful, intelligent, and good-natured and both Tori and Tabasco have numerous offspring with sweet temperaments and proven abilities in conformation, obedience, and the field.

The litter of puppies, like all our dogs, will be raised in our home and given all the love, attention, and socialization that a family of six can provide. Each puppy is given early neurological stimulation to give it the very best possible start in life
.  As the puppies grow, we follow the "Rule of Sevens" developed by Pat Hastings, an AKC judge and author of "Another Piece of The Puzzle: Puppy Development." For photos of Tori's previous litters, see Tori's First Litter and Tori's Second Litter. For information and photos of Tabasco's puppies, see Tabasco's Puppies.

Q: What is the VCA Code of Ethics?

A: One of the purposes of the Vizsla Club of America (VCA) is to "encourage and promote quality in the breeding of purebred Vizslas and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection." The VCA adopted a "Code Of Ethics" that outlines guidelines to ensure that Vizslas remain "true to type whether in the show ring, field or at home with the family, representing all physical characteristics which have distinguished them for centuries." (http://clubs.akc.org/vizsla/ethics.htm). At Harmony Vizslas, as members of the VCA, we fully support and follow the VCA's Code of Ethics.

The VCA's Code of Ethics requires that all Vizsla breeding stock be radiographed and certified free of hip dysplasia and encourages prospective breeders and puppy buyers to inquire about the OFA certification of both the sire and dam prior to purchase.

Q: What do the title abbreviations mean?
A: CH - Champion of Record; The AKC holds dog shows or "conformation events" to evaluate breeding
stock according to individual breed standards. Dogs are awarded "points" based on the number
of dogs entered. Each dog must acquire 15 points, including 2 majors (wins of 3, 4, or 5
points) under three different judges to be awarded a Championship title from the AKC.

CGC - Canine Good Citizen; The CGC is an AKC certification program that rewards dogs who have

good manners at home and in the community. All dogs must pass a10-step CGC test to be
awarded a CGC certificate from the AKC.

CD - Companion Dog; A dog must perform 6 exercises in the Novice class and have 3 qualifying

scores under 3 different judges to be awarded a CD title from the AKC.

JH - Junior Hunter; A Junior hunting dog must show a keen desire to hunt, be bold and independent,

have a fast, yet attractive manner of hunting, and demonstrate intelligence in seeking objectives
and be able to find game. Junior dogs must also show reasonable obedience to their
handler's commands. A dog must pass 4 Junior Hunt tests to be awarded a JH title from the
           AKC.

SH - Senior Hunter; In addition to showing all the attributes of a Junior hunting a dog, a Senior

hunting dog must also be steady to wing on all pointed birds and must remain in position until
the shot or he is released, and must retrieve. A Senior hunting dog must also honor its
bracemate whenever he encounters the other dog on point. A dog who has a JH needs to pass
four Senior Hunt tests to receive a SH title from the AKC.

MH - Master Hunter; A Master hunting dog must positively demonstrate its steadiness to wing and

shot and all killed birds must be retrieved promptly, tenderly and absolutely to hand. A Master
hunting dog must honor his bracemate and must stop on a wild flushed bird without additional
commands from his handler. A dog who has a SH must pass 5 Master hunt tests to receive a
           MH title from the AKC.

VC - Versatility certificate; The Vizsla Club of America (VCA) uses the Versatility program to

encourage amateur Vizsla owners to participate with their dogs in 3 different events:
conformation, obedience, and field, and to promote the versatility of the Vizsla as a good-
looking, well-mannered hunting companion. Dogs must pass each event three times under
three different judges to receive a Versatility Certificate from the VCA.
